![]() Price is the bottom line for most people. This is another win for Apple, which is to be expected at the much higher price. Apple’s Vision Pro can connect to a Mac, so the point is moot. Even if Apple throttles the chip to keep heat down, it will be much faster than Meta’s headset.Ī fast PC with a top GPU would outperform the Vision Pro in benchmarks, but Apple’s headset will still offer sharper graphics than Meta’s. For more demanding games and apps, you can connect wirelessly to a Windows PC with a discrete GPU and get good responsiveness while seeing a higher-quality image.Īpple’s Vision Pro features an M2 processor, the same type of chip used in Mac computers, MacBooks, and the iPad Pro. It works well for the games and apps that are available. This extra performance helps, but it’s still a chip based on a mobile processor. Meta gave the Quest Pro a faster processor than the Quest 2, upgrading from an XR2 to an XR2+. If the only consideration was display quality, the Vision Pro is clearly the winner. ![]() This will be most noticeable in high-contrast areas with fine details.Īpple has a big display quality advantage over Meta and every other VR headset manufacturer. ![]() The Vision Pro’s HDR will outperform Meta’s solution. It’s a great solution, but OLED is better.Īpple’s Vision Pro uses micro-OLED displays for a pure black that’s controllable at the pixel level. Apple uses mini-LED technology in its 12.9-inch iPad Pro and some MacBook Pro models. The Meta Quest Pro features mini-LED backlighting, providing truer blacks and a wider dynamic range of brightness. With more than double the number of pixels available in the Quest Pro, it will undoubtedly offer a crisper image. Early reviews suggest the lens clarity is exceptional. It’s the sharpest consumer VR headset yet. Display quality AppleĪpple’s Vision Pro has outstanding display resolution. Apple might be more comfortable right out of the box, but it lacks an open facial interface. I’ll score this one a tie since the Quest Pro is a known quantity, and there are easy solutions to its forehead pad. Tracey TrulyĪpple didn’t mention its Fitness+ workout program during the headset announcement, so it’s unclear if the Vision Pro is a good solution for fitness or even for fast-paced VR games that require rapid head movement. It might withstand similar punishment, but that remains to be seen. Apple’s Vision Pro comes with a stretchy, breathable headband that’s removable, and the headset looks well made. The Meta Quest Pro has been thoroughly tested and survives hours of rigorous workouts in Supernatural, FitXR, and intensive gaming. Apple mentioned in its presentation that it studied head shapes and chose a solution flexible enough to provide a good fit. While Apple’s Light Seal, the facial interface, isn’t open, it appears to be breathable, and early hands-on reports agree. While I can’t say for sure until I get an opportunity to try the Vision Pro, several features suggest you might be able to wear Apple’s headset for several hours. Tracey TrulyĪpple seems to have placed an even greater focus on comfort. Some users add a Velcro strap across the top to ease forehead pressure. My forehead toughened up over time, so I removed the neoprene. I fell into the “OK” group and added a little neoprene to make it conform to my head better. It depends on the shape of your forehead. It fits great for some, works okay for many, but the Quest Pro proves too painful for others to use for more than a few minutes. Unfortunately, Meta failed with the head pad. If you have sensitive skin, taking the weight off your cheeks makes VR much more enjoyable. The airiness is more comfortable than a Quest 2 and most other VR headsets that begin to feel warm and stuffy in a hurry. You also enjoy natural peripheral vision, preventing crashing into someone approaching from the side. When wearing a Quest Pro, you can glance down to see a keyboard as you’re typing or your feet and see below the edge of the headset to avoid stepping on a friendly cat when gaming. Most notably, the part of the device that usually presses against your face, known as the facial interface, was opened up. When Meta announced the Quest Pro, the company emphasized its improved comfort. If your expensive headset becomes painful after an hour, you’re not getting good value, and it might be time to look for a remedy or a new model. A premium VR headset should be comfortable enough to watch a full-length movie or play an immersive game, then do something productive without taking a break.

![]() In RoR2, time is incredibly important, especially at harder difficulties, as one of the slower characters (slowest maybe?) you need to divide and conquer, aka turrets kill you run.Įventually, enemies will stop spawning around the old turret and you will have to place a new one to get more kills. While this turret is down, go find chests and the teleporter as quickly as possible. Instead, try to always have one turret charge ready. Turrets only have two charges and 30 seconds between each charge, making it hard to move them around with you if you just spam them whenever they are up. The first thing to note is that you want to place only one turret down at the start. Obviously there is some nuance here so I will explain further. Place another turret down near the teleporter. How to Play Engineer in Risk of Rain 2Ī quick two-second guide on how to play Engineer: The next sections will deal with gameplay tips on how to play Engineer in Risk of Rain 2 and what the perfect items are for an Engineer. You can hold two charges and each charge takes 30 seconds to cool down so make sure you aren’t wasting them as they are your main source of damage. Keep in mind that you can only have two turrets out at once and placing more will replace the first turret you placed. They don’t do a tremendous amount of damage and do so slowly (notice a pattern?), but just one or two decent items can turn the turrets into merciless killing (or healing) machines. When just starting out, the turrets are pretty lackluster. One, they copy all of the items you have therefore tripling the effectiveness of any item, and second, they can do your job for you (kill things) while you go collect items. These things are extremely strong for two reasons. The Engineer’s turrets are the main reason you are interested in playing Engineer, let’s be real. Most people would see this as a detriment, however, it is actually a benefit, you can use the shield to bounce grenades off of and kill those annoying lesser wisps. Your attacks don’t even go through, they just bounce off it (or stick). Where most Risk of Rain 2 characters get a movement ability, Engineer gets an impenetrable shield that lasts for a whopping 15 seconds.īy the way, when I said impenetrable, I meant it. This little ability makes the Engineer a true s’ mores eating camper. My personal favorite way to use them is to throw them on top of bosses’ heads, giving them an explosive Kippah. Players, your turrets, your shield, enemies, even drones. Most of the time you want to turtle in your shield and once enough enemies have clumped up around you, toss all the mines you can at once, hopefully halting the beetle epidemic that plagues you. Thankfully, he can hold up to 10 at a time and have 4 on the ground at once (they explode if there are more than 4). The Engineer’s mines, much like his normal attack, are low damage but numerous. So what did we learn children? Keep sprinting while charging his attack, his attacks are kind of poop, and they have a 1.0 proc coefficient. This stuff is essential to understand, even if you are playing my favorite (brain dead) survivor. For those who have no clue what this means, check out the proc section of my Risk of Rain 2 guide. Notably, this ability also has a 1.0 proc coefficient. It is simple to do, just hold the ability (left-click PC overlords) and then use the sprint button as you are charging it. You can sprint while charging up the attack, something only a few other Risk of Rain characters have. In all fairness, they aren’t completely terrible (except against anything in the air). Without attack speed, it feels like you are shooting nerf bullets in slow motion, but with attack speed, it feels like faster nerf bullets. The bouncing grenades are meh in terms of damage and half the time you will forget you even have this ability. Let’s start with the Engineer’s attack ability. The Engineer comes with a unique skill set that sets him apart from his inferior counterparts. For now, keep in mind that in Risk of Rain 2 there is no better solo character in the game than Engineer and no cooler cat than the man with a turret. I’ll elaborate on these many many benefits of using Engineer later in this guide. ![]() Bubble Shield is the best “oh shit” button in RoR2.Turrets can do your homework (ok maybe not).If you want to see why or want an excuse to hate me, go check it out.Īnyway, here is the Engineer guide you came to see. Fungus lords unite!įor those interested, Engineer was ranked at the very top of our recent Risk of Rain 2 character tier list. In this Risk of Rain 2 Engineer guide, I am going to be showing you how to play the turret character Engineer so well you will be getting god runs every time. ![]() "But my friends just teased me like, 'Man, what are you doing in that piece of crap?' and I'd say, 'Oh, you talkin' 'bout that Bentley right there?'" Since that time, however, Morris has had some quality time to bond with his vehicle, considering he drove it more than 20 hours from South Florida to his new D.C.-area residence when he was drafted by the Redskins.īut how did he land on a name like "Bentley," which is one of the more luxurious automobile manufacturers on the planet? Learning to tame his "Bentley" wasn't an easy task for Morris. "But I always wanted a car, and it was what I got." "I could've been like, 'Ah, I don't want this piece of crap,'" Morris said. Morris said he didn't have a vehicle at all until his junior year at FAU, so he certainly didn't turn his nose up at "Bentley" when he had the chance to get it. "It just keeps me grounded, where I came from and all the hard work for me to get to this point. "It has some sentimental value to it now," Morris said Wednesday before the Redskins headed out for practice. Morris, a rookie running back, can most likely afford a nicer vehicle, but his '91 Mazda - which is affectionately known as his "Bentley" - reminds Morris of his journey of playing at mid-level Florida Atlantic University to starting in his first two career games in the National Football League. Adams calls it his life's work and said in 2011 that version 1.0 will not be ready for at least another 20 years, and even after that he would continue to work on it. By 2004, Adams decided to shift from the original Armok to Dwarf Fortress after the former became difficult to maintain. Prior to Dwarf Fortress, Tarn Adams was working on a project called Slaves to Armok: God of Blood which was a role-playing game. Creatures have no hit points, and instead death occurs as a result of the impairment or disruption of vital functions. The combat system in both modes is anatomically detailed with combat logs describing events like organs getting pierced, fat getting bruised and limbs getting severed. The second main game mode, Adventurer mode, is a turn-based, open-ended, open world roguelike where the player starts off as a player made adventurer in the world and is free to explore, complete quests, or visit old abandoned fortresses. Each creature has a discrete mind and individual personality, including likes and dislikes, and possesses specific trainable or innate skills in various labors and abilities, as well as short and long term memories to facilitate all this, as well as influencing its current emotional state. Each creature, from animal to dwarf, is modeled down to its body parts, bodily fluids, organs, bones, teeth, hair, and tissues (which, depending on the creature, can be made of more unusual fantastic materials such as metal or stone, or even mist, fire, or moss) each of which can be injured or lost. The main game mode, Dwarf Fortress mode, is a colony management game that starts with selecting a suitable site from the generated world, establishing a successful colony or fortress, combating threats like goblin invasions, monster sieges, or undead hordes, generating economic wealth and taking care of the dwarves. Before playing, the player has to set in motion a process which generates a fantasy world with continents, oceans, and islands, produced via generative geology and hydrogeology, meteorology, and biogeography, and then simulates the evolution of all civilizations down to the lives of their inhabitants in order to yield a coherent world with internally consistent lore and history. It is open-ended with no main objectives. The game influenced Minecraft, Rimworld, and others, and was selected among other games to be featured in the Museum of Modern Art to show the history of video gaming in 2012.įor the vast majority of the game's history, it solely had text-based graphics (using the CP437 character set), but the Premium edition released in 2022 added the option to use a tile set to represent the game world. The primary game mode is set in a procedurally generated fantasy world in which the player indirectly controls a group of dwarves, and attempts to construct a successful and wealthy fortress.
